| Water, Water Everywhere |
|

When you're lucky enough to be surrounded by miles
and miles of the most sparkling emerald water you've ever seen, boating is the
way to travel. And we've got a variety of maritime adventures to choose from.
Fishing charters offer the perfect chance to reel in the catch
of a lifetime. Want to party with some porpoises? Book a seat on a dolphin cruise and get up-close-and-personal with Flipper and
his friends. Hitch a ride on the Mobile Bay Ferry, which travels between historic Fort Morgan and
Fort Gaines. Or do the natural thing -- rent a kayak and paddle your way through lakes and lagoons under
the watchful gaze of gators and great blue herons. Sail on over to our Attractions or Fishing pages for a list of ways to get your sea legs. |

| Sea Creatures
Invade Alabama's Gulf Coast! |
|
Creatures from the deep have been spotted dragging
themselves on to our beaches late at night.

Don't worry. It's not the Creature from the Black
Lagoon. It's nesting season for sea turtles! The Alabama Gulf Coast is lucky enough
to be a nesting habitat for several types of endangered sea turtles. The last
few years, we've seen record numbers of turtles nests on our coast (thanks to
the tireless efforts of our turtle volunteer group) and this year is off to a
very promising start. Female turtles make their way onto the beach each year between
the months of May and October to lay their eggs. Each turtle lays 50-70 eggs and
buries them in the sand. After about 60 days the eggs will hatch, and the hatchlings
(like these captured in the nighttime photo above) begin a perilous journey back
to the sea. They will eventually return to the beach where they were hatched to lay their own eggs.
When you visit, you may see nesting sites that
are marked off for protection. Feel free to take a look, but please don't disturb
the site. All six species of sea turtles found in U.S. waters are threatened or
endangered. We want to make sure we offer a safe haven for them to nest and for
their descendants to return year after year.
To learn more about our sea turtles and watch video of hatchlings making
their way to the Gulf for the first time, visit the Alabama sea turtle website. |

| Are We There Yet? |
| Can't wait another minute to get here? We've got a great way to shorten your drive time.
No, we're not advocating breaking any speed limits,
but we do have a suggestion for beating some of the summer traffic. Express yourself!
The Foley Beach Express can cut
your travel time by as much as 30 minutes. Hop on the Beach Express from Highway
59 near Summerdale (see a map here) and avoid some of the congestion and traffic lights.
There is a $3 toll to use the bridge. But hey,
isn't it worth it to avoid hearing your kids whine for the last hour of your trip? |
