Resolutions Made Easy on the AL Gulf Coast

Forget the typical resolutions, and help your readers discover a fresh start to the New Year by toasting the arrival of 2009 on the Alabama Gulf Coast. This charming coastal community offers an event for every member of the family.

Start the celebration early at the 21st Annual Make It to the Line Fun Run set for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27. Organized by the Flora-Bama Lounge and Package, the four mile course will start and end at this legendary roadhouse, and trophies will be awarded three deep for all the men and women's age groups. A portion of registration fee proceeds will be donated to the Innerarity Point and Orange Beach Fire Departments. For more information or to register online, click here.

hspace=10For a child friendly event, stop by LuLu’s at Homeport Marina, which will is hosting its annual “Noon” Years for Kids. Beginning on New Year’s Eve at 10:00 a.m., this free event features five fun-filled hours of clowns, face painters, crafts and games. Don’t miss the balloon release at high noon or the age appropriate live musical entertainment.

Then find a babysitter for the little ones, and ring in 2009 at LuLu’s at Homeport Marina as Nadirah Shakoor and The Juke Joint Duo rock the house. This former lead female vocalist for the hip hop group Arrested Development and a long time featured vocalist in Jimmy Buffetts’ Coral Reefer Band has partnered with the Juke Joint Duo, and the fabulous reviews has spanned the country. The doors open at 7:00 p.m. While the band will be rocking from 9:00 p.m. all the way through the New Year to 1:00 a.m., the kitchen will close at 11:00 p.m. At midnight, enjoy the complimentary champagne toast and New Year’s breakfast. hspace=10Meanwhile, satisfy your need for fireworks with a trip to The Wharf, which is hosting its 3rd Annual New Year’s Eve Block Party Blowout. Enjoy the festive holiday lights and live musical entertainment from 5:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Be sure to see the fireworks show light up the starry southern sky at the stroke of midnight. After counting down the New Year, experience another tradition with the 25th Annual Polar Bear Dip at the Flora-Bama Lounge and Package. Suit up in your favorite summertime beach swimwear for a refreshing plunge in the sometimes chilly gulf waters.
