Time For Some Reel Fun

A laid-back spring or summer afternoon on the gulf waters could change dramatically if you land one of the top fish in the Saltwater Series presented by the Red Snapper World Championship. With a lucrative payout schedule of more than $200,000 in cash and prizes, competition will be fierce as anglers battle from March 15th to August 15th for eight offshore and two inshore fish species.

Entry ticket fees for anglers are $10 per day or $300 for the entire tournament. Meanwhile, boat entry fees for tournament’s duration are $500 for large boats or $200 for small boats. Tickets and information can be found online at the Red Snapper World Championship website.

Prizes will be awarded in three categories: anglers, small boats (35 feet and under) and large boats (over 35 feet). Small and large boat categories apply to the red snapper portion of the tournament only (June 1st to August 15th).

Last year in the red snapper division, Clayton Helton on Pensacola, Fla., reeled in a 34.55 pound fish aboard the Jamie G and the top prize. Second place was Rian LaFon of Gulf Breeze, Fla., with a 32.90 pound red snapper on board Airborne, and third place was Joey Lapeyrouse of Mobile, Ala., with a 32.20 pound fish that was caught on Reelentless.
