Does Santa Float?

As if a bowl full of jelly belly wasn't enough, Santa improves his chances each year on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Trading his sleigh for a more sea-worthy vessel, this joy ole' guy navigates the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) during the "Nautical Night of Lights" on Saturday, December 12. This lighted boat parade features a unique twist on the traditional fare while paying tribute to the area’s nautical history. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. at LuLu’s at Homeport Marina, the parade will travel east along the ICW before arriving at its final destination of Zeke’s Marina around 8:30 p.m. Spectators are invited to line the banks of the ICW to catch a glimpse of this charming parade. For more information, visit the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce’s website.

A week before Santa acquires his sea legs, he will be living the good life at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo during the Sandy Claws Christmas Party. This “Little Zoo That Could” welcomes children to a unique holiday party surrounded by the zoo’s collection of animal stars. The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5. Grab a quick photograph with Sandy Claws, and enjoy the refreshments. The zoo will also have its Angel Tree on display. Guests are invited to gift back to the zoo by adopting an animal’s request from the tree. The wish list runs the range from toys to blankets to other unique items. Admission on this Saturday will be $1.00 off regular admission prices. For more information, visit the zoo’s website.

Alabama's Coastal Connection Awarded National Scenic Byway Designation

On October 16, a 130+ mile byway winding along Alabama's scenic and diverse coastal landscape was suddenly thrust into the national spotlight as it (along with other 36 other byways in 26 states) received the prestigious designation of a National Scenic Byway.

"This designation is a great honor and is definitely validation for the folks who've been working on this project for years," said Byway Coordinator Colette Boehm. "We are all excited about the designation. It will be a great asset in getting the word out about the amazing resources and attractions we have along Alabama's Gulf Coast."
